5 Reasons why should one should consider digital marketing over traditional marketing

Believe it or not, there are still a large number of people who apply only traditional marketing for their businesses, not convinced that digital marketing is the way to go.

To each his or her own I say but on that note, I would like to highlight just a few reasons why digital marketing may be the key you have been looking for, to unlock the next level of growth in your business.

  1. Cost
    1. The traditional forms of marketing, such as TV ads, radio ads newspaper print ads, and billboards are excessively expensive.
    2. Do yourself a favor and research the prices of those options in your city…and just in case you didn’t know, you may be in for a rude awakening.
    3. The pricing model for those platforms is still based on viewing habits from 20 years ago!
    4. So the fact that they haven’t adjusted with time, is pretty shocking.

  1. Measurability
    1. Peter Drucker’s famous quote “What gets measured gets managed” will serve you very well when you apply the principle.
    2. It is very difficult to accurately measure the ROI (Return on Investment) from a traditional TV ad, radio ad etc.
    3. How do you measure how many people watched or listened to your ad, or how many saw your billboard. It just becomes a guessing game, and not a very good one at that.
    4. And if you cannot measure how many people saw your ad, and what % of those bought your offer directly because of seeing or hearing the ad, makes it impossible to measure your Conversion %’s and thus impossible to accurately allocate further budget moving forward.
    5. Online marketing though, is very accurate to measure.
    6. Just using Facebook ads or Google ads, the metrics are right there at your fingertips:
      1. Impressions, views, CTR (click-through-rate), CPC (cost per click), CPL (cost per lead), total amount spent, total amount of sales generated, and many more!
      2. When you know exact numbers, you will know the exact effectiveness of what worked and what didn’t.
  • And when you know those elements it puts you as the business owner or head of a division, directly in the driver’s seat, because now you can stop what doesn’t work, and continue doing what does!
  • That kind of control over projected results was unheard of in the days of traditional marketing and now it is right in the palm of your hand.

  1. No Middle Man
    1. If you wanted to broadcast a TV ad, could you just record one and magically pop it onto your local TV stations broadcast. Sounds silly, but of course you couldn’t do so.
    2. If you want to design a video ad and pop it onto your YouTube Channel or Facebook Page or Linked in Business Page, can you do so? Once again sounds silly, but of course you can!
    3. Sometimes the silly examples are the best in illustrating a point that is clear for all to see.

  1. ROI (RETURN ON INVESTMENT)
    1. When Ad campaigns are put together in the right way, from the Strategy phase, to the Implementation phase and the way through the Refinement and Optimization phases, you can place a relatively small amount into the Ads upfront, and receive a ROI of substantial proportion.
    2. As a business owner or someone in charge of marketing budgets in a corporate company, this should be music to your ears.
    3. A simple tip, is to make just a small tweak to your mindset around digital marketing:
      1. Instead of viewing it as an Expense (money spent, never to be seen again) to that of an Investment!
      2. An investment is different in that you place the investment into a vehicle (in this case a proven system of digital marketing that is geared towards getting results) that will provide a return on that investment (ROI)!

  1. Reach!
    1. Never before in the history of advertising, could anyone so accurately target their ideal audience.
    2. Yes you could target sports fans by airing your ads during a Cup Final or any form of World Cup.
    3. But when it comes to the power of databases, Facebook and Google hold the upper hand by a long shot! So instead of standing on the sidelines, why not use the power of those databases, to place your Ads in the newsfeeds of the exact people who both need the solution you are offering, and are ready to buy (or very close to it)!

Conclusion

In most cases where people have not fully embraced online marketing for their businesses, is most likely as a result of having tried it, and just ended up wasting money and getting no results (or very little results) in the process. My advice, is that you open up the option of trying it again, even if it didn’t work out so well in the past.

Either sign up for a good course that help will help you build the skill for yourself. Or utilize someone in your current team who has the skill to apply online marketing, starting with a small budget and gradually proving themselves.

Or engage the services of a Digital Marketing Agency who can get results. Start small, work with an agency with satisfied customers, and always focus on results! When digital marketing is done in a systematic manner, starting with excellent research and a proposed strategy that works, you are giving yourself and your business the chance to move beyond the current ceiling, and ride that wave to the next level of profits!

Until next time,
